Moonship Dispatch #5: Subversions in an Emergency

07:00 PM

Join a.p. and Barakunan on Saturday, November 20 at 6:00pm for Moonship Dispatch #5: Subversions in an Emergency.

Barakunan is an independent press and media collective publishing immediate, prophetic, and genre-defying works. Working across literature, audio, and video, Barakunan operates beyond the boundaries of traditional publishing houses, engaging via a digital literature festival, a growing roster of print books, and various installations, performances and exhibitions in Europe and the Middle East. Themes explored across their varied publishing practice include transnational literatures of personal and collective resistance, notions of cultural myth and mythmaking, matters of the modern "Geist," and much more. ⚪️

Moonship Dispatch is a series of electrified readings of original Barakunan texts. Presented through live performance and film, each manifestation showcases a narrative from the wayward, post-human crew aboard the transdimensional Moonship fleet. Iterations of Moonship Dispatch have been performed live at the Beirut Art Center in Beirut, the MMAG Foundation in Amman, and Warehouse 421 in Abu Dhabi, as well as digitally for London’s Mosaic Rooms, the Arab Film Festival in Minneapolis, and Barakunan’s Electronic Literature Day.

Moonship Dispatch #5 will present audiovisual readings from a suite of Barakunan releases The Story of Sister Sarah Shamlan, The Martyrs, Remain Positive, Song of Shaaban, and American Terror. From 8:00pm - 11:00pm, readings will unfold throughout a.p.’s space. Stay tuned for the full lineup of readers.

Attendance is free, though spaces are limited; please register ahead of time via the link in our bio. The event will follow 2G rules, so please bring either proof of vaccination or recovery for entry.
