Urin

Urin focuses on urine as a connective flow through medical and scientific history, cultural and idiomatic expression, and attitudes to the body, always with a more or less explicitly social and material focus. As such, the essays range from political pissing contests (in Pope's Dunciad, J. Edgar Hoover, Trump and Thatcher), moral aspects and attitudes in the provision and design of public toilets, an exploration of genre forms as an expression of folk idioms relating to the body, and so on. Frauke's photography takes a primarily documentary bent, Berlin piss corners and toilets, medical paraphernalia from the Charité University archives, and subcultures of various types. The aim was that the essays neither explain her work directly, nor that the photography merely illustrate the text.
